SCCA SOLO NATIONALS AND GOLF SCRAMBLE

This past weekend, we traveled to Toledo, OH for the Northwest Ohio Region's Event #7. It was a good weekend with three new drivers competing and posting quality times with two out of the four drivers earning trophies in their classes. We were also able to pit our car against cars from Kettering University and Oakland University.

This coming week, two of our current members and one alumnus will be traveling to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete in the 2009 SCCA Solo National Championships. We will be competing in both the Formula SAE and Formula SAE Ladies classes. Wish us luck!

Our golf scramble fundraiser has been confirmed for Saturday, October 3rd at Praries Golf Club in Kalamazoo. We will be having a shotgun start at 8AM. Individual golfers may register for $70. Foursomes may register for $250. Golf carts and a light lunch will be provided. Click here for more information on the event, including registration information and a map.

Our first annual car show has been confirmed for 10AM - 4PM on Saturday, September 19th. It will be held in the parking lot just south of the University Bookstore on Western Michigan University's main campus. This event is open to the public with general admission of $2 ($1 with WMU student ID) and cars may be registered for display for $5. Click here for more information on the event.

We hope to see you at one or both of these events!

Blog ending on September 8th, 2009

With the recent updates to our website, it has become easier to add new news posts, thus reducing our need for the blog. We will continue to post any new news items to the blog until the start of the 2009-2010 school year on September 8th, 2009. After this time, this blog will go into a more-or-less "hibernative state" for the foreseeable future. Thank you for tuning in and we hope you like the changes to our website.

GENERAL UPDATE

Hi everyone! Here's a little bit on everything that has been going on recently:

As you may or may not have heard, WMU took first place in the Collegiate Presentation at SAE World Congress in April for the second year in a row. Also, we placed 15th out of 39 registered teams at the Formula SAE competition held at Virginia International Raceway during Finals Week in April.

Following our return from Virginia, we did some vehicle testing in preparation for the Formula SAE competition at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) and we held a public unveiling of the 2009 Formula SAE vehicle. At MIS, we had an overall finish of 42nd out of 97 registered teams and completed all of the events--both static and dynamic--for the first time in almost two decades. We were also one of only 37 teams who completed the Endurance Event. Thank you to all of you who came out to see us and cheer us on!

Since returning from MIS, we have appeared at WMU Day at the Capitol and continued to tune our vehicle for Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) events over the summer. We have also been working to train new drivers for the car and have held elections for next year's team. To see what positions have changed, check out our Contact page.

If you'd like to come out and see us, check out our Calendar to see where we will be next.

2009 FSAE-V DAY 2

DAY 2: Thursday, April 23, 2009

The morning was spent making final preparations for static events and our second round of tech inspection. The car successfully passed tech and egress for all 5 drivers. Ryan Pringle was the fastest at just 3.2 seconds (5 second maximum limit). Following tech inspection, the team completed the tilt test with no leaks (the car was tilted to 45 degrees first to test for leaks, thento 60 degrees to make certain no tires will leave the ground during the event). The business, cost and design presentations were all completed successfully. Following the design presentation, the team fixed the position of the brake calipers and bled the brake lines. The team attempted to pass the noise test but had issues with the muffler, so will spend the evening preparing the muffler for tomorrow. Noise and brake testing reopen at 8am on Friday morning, so the team will be one of the first teams in line for both tests.
